How buyer shipping prices work on Wehoz

The flat-rate shipping model — what the buyer pays, what you absorb, and how to price heavy or oversized items.

title: How buyer shipping prices work on Wehoz description: The flat-rate shipping model — what the buyer pays, what you absorb, and how to price heavy or oversized items. topic: seller-help order: 33 updated_at: "2026-08-07" phase: live status: published tags: [seller, shipping, pricing, flat-rate] related: [shipping-labels-and-tracking, managing-orders, payouts]

Wehoz decouples what the buyer pays for shipping from what the label costs you. The two never need to match, and usually won't.

What the buyer pays

The shipping price a buyer sees for your item resolves in this order:

  1. Your per-item flat rate, if you set one on the item's variant. Each variant carries its own rate, so a heavyweight size can charge shipping while the compact one ships free.
  2. Your store-wide default flat rate, if you set one.
  3. The platform default — $0 at launch.

Leaving a rate blank means "fall through to the next level"; setting it to $0 means "explicitly free" and stops the fallthrough. Those are different choices — a $0 variant rate ships free even if your store default is $7.

That's the whole model. No live carrier quotes at checkout, no membership gates, no thresholds to hit. "Free shipping for everyone, no membership" is the buyer-side promise, and your flat rates are how it stays economically sane on your side.

Multiple items in one order

Shipping is charged once per seller, per order — not per item, not per unit. When a buyer orders several of your items together, they pay the highest applicable rate among those items: the item that drives the parcel's cost sets the price, and lighter items ride along. Quantity doesn't multiply the charge either — the flat rate prices the consignment, so per-unit fulfillment cost belongs in the item price, with the flat rate as the top-up for outliers. (A buyer whose cart spans several sellers pays each seller's shipping separately, since each seller ships their own items.)

What you absorb

You pay the actual carrier cost — the label you buy through the dashboard or on your own carrier account. The label cost is deducted from your proceeds, and you price it into the item (or into your flat rate). Wehoz's margin is commission-only and does not depend on parcel weight.

Heavy and oversized items: set a rate

Because the platform default is $0, a heavy item with no seller-set rate ships free to the buyer at your expense. For anything where carrier cost is material — furniture, equipment, bulk packs — set an explicit per-item flat rate. You know the parcel; price it.

Returns — who pays the postage

The buyer never pays return postage on Wehoz. As the seller you either:

  • Provide a return label (the dashboard's return-label flow), or
  • Absorb the return cost in whatever way suits your operation.

Your shipping settings declare which mode you operate under (providing a label is the default). Either way, the buyer pays nothing to ship a return back.

Pricing advice, plainly

Build fulfillment cost into your item price the way you would for any free-shipping channel. Don't inflate a fake "shipping discount" — the storefront doesn't do strike-through shipping theater, and neither should your pricing.
